Her story highlights strategic pivots, the value of continuous learning, and the importance of bridging technical expertise with customer-centric marketing.

In this CareerGrowthX conversation, Niveeditha shares her career path in depth—exploring key transitions, challenges, and the practical lessons that have shaped her 17-year journey in tech marketing.

Hello Niveeditha! Can you introduce yourself and share what you do?

Sure! I’m currently the Head of Marketing at BI Worldwide, a product-based company offering loyalty solutions. Over the past 17 years, I’ve built my career at the intersection of technology and marketing, working across industries like SaaS, IT services, and tech products. I've had the opportunity to contribute to companies such as IBM, HCL, Zensar, Cvent, and now BI Worldwide, focusing on driving demand generation, branding, and thought leadership initiatives.

Let’s start from the beginning—what was your early journey like before entering the marketing world?

I had a very global upbringing because my father worked with the Ministry of External Affairs. I was born in Bangladesh and lived across Europe for almost 17–18 years, constantly shifting between countries and schools. It exposed me to multiple cultures, languages, and education systems.

After that, I decided I wanted more stability and chose to pursue a degree in computer science engineering at Walchand Institute of Technology, under Shivaji University. I later completed an MBA in Marketing from the Institute of Marketing and Management in New Delhi, which laid the groundwork for my transition into the marketing space.

What made you pivot from engineering to marketing after completing your technical degree?

While studying engineering, I realized I was always more inclined toward front-end activities — things like hosting events, leading presentations, and working closely with teams and professors on management activities. I enjoyed technology, but I was more passionate about speaking, presenting, and connecting technology with business needs.

So after graduation, even though I did internships with companies like HCL Infosystems and Neilsoft, I realized I wanted to be at the front end — explaining technology, promoting it, and selling solutions. That led me to pursue an MBA and eventually to my first marketing role.

How did you break into your first marketing role after the career shift?

My first official role in marketing was at Cvent, where I joined as a Market Research Associate. It was a SaaS-based event management company, and I got firsthand experience with how to promote and market technology products. That experience really solidified my decision to stay in marketing because it blended both my technical background and my passion for marketing.

What were some of the early challenges you faced when you moved into marketing?

One major challenge was understanding the financial side of the business. As engineers, we’re more technically inclined, but marketing requires a good grasp of numbers — revenue, cost accounting, product pricing, and financial projections. I struggled with this initially and realized that mastering financial concepts is critical for any marketer aiming to align their work with business goals.

How did your career evolve after your early roles?

After Cvent, I moved into marketing roles with companies like IBM, HCL, and Zensar, where I handled different markets — the US, UK, and India. I got exposure to demand generation, analyst relations, content marketing, branding, and thought leadership. Each role helped me develop a wider perspective on how marketing supports business growth at scale.

Eventually, I moved into leadership roles where I started managing cross-functional teams, coordinating with sales, operations, leadership, and building marketing plans tied directly to company revenue goals.

What does a typical day look like for you now as Head of Marketing?

My day is structured around three engines: demand generation, branding, and thought leadership. I work closely with my team and vendors to run webinars, email campaigns, analyst relations, digital initiatives, and internal branding efforts.

Every activity is tied back to revenue and business growth. I also spend time learning about our products, understanding market dynamics, collaborating with sales, and ensuring that every tactic supports our strategic objectives. It's a mix of operations, learning, collaboration, and constant problem-solving.

Looking back, is there anything you would do differently in your career journey?

If I could go back, I would invest more time early on in understanding finance and business accounting. Financial acumen is essential because marketing ultimately impacts revenue. While I learned these skills later through experience, starting earlier would have made my transitions and decision-making even smoother.

Also, I believe in gaining diverse exposure — working across different industries, markets, and company sizes helped me grow much faster than if I had stayed in one place for too long.

What advice would you give to aspiring marketers or professionals thinking about pivoting into marketing?

First, stay curious. You need to be deeply curious about how every function — from HR to operations to finance — impacts business. Marketing is not just about creativity; it’s about understanding the whole organization and the market ecosystem.

Second, master collaboration. Work closely with sales and leadership; marketing cannot function in isolation.

And finally, upskill continuously. Learn financial basics, understand SEO, explore data-driven marketing, and get comfortable with AI tools. Technology and marketing are blending even more tightly now, and adapting quickly is key to long-term success.

Engage and Grow

Niveeditha Ganguly’s career path offers valuable insights for aspiring marketers and professionals aiming to bridge technology with business strategy. His story is one of deliberate transitions, continuous learning, and strategic thinking—qualities that have shaped his career trajectory over the past 18 years.

In this CareerGrowthX conversation, Kunal shares his career journey in depth—discussing pivotal moments, transitions, and the insights that have helped him navigate the path from software engineering to product leadership.

Hello Kunal! Can you introduce yourself and share what you do?

Sure! I’m currently a lead product manager at eBay, where I focus on product strategy, customer insights, and business impact. Over my career, I have delivered more than 12 products across cloud communications, e-commerce, and payments. These products have generated over $50 million in incremental revenue, saved companies over $20 million in operational costs, and influenced upwards of $1 billion in sales.

At eBay, my primary responsibility is to develop high-impact product strategies, working closely with engineering, design, data science, and business teams. My role requires me to think beyond just feature development—I prioritize initiatives that balance customer needs, business goals, and market trends while ensuring we allocate resources effectively.

You started as a software developer. What led you to explore opportunities beyond coding?

I started my career in Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra, with a degree in computer science and engineering from DKTE Textile and Engineering College, affiliated with Shivaji University. Like most fresh graduates, I joined Persistent Systems as a software developer and spent my time coding and debugging.

However, about two years into my role, I had a defining moment. I spent three days debugging an issue caused by a missing semicolon, and that frustration made me reflect on what I truly enjoyed. While I liked problem-solving, I realized that I was more interested in understanding how products were built, why certain features mattered, and how business decisions influenced technology.

That realization set me on a path to explore product management, where I could work at the intersection of technology, business, and user experience.

What were your next steps after realizing that software development wasn’t your long-term career path?

I wanted to make a structured transition, so I decided to pursue a master’s in information technology and management at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). It was a big decision—leaving a stable job for further studies involved risk.

To manage that risk, I opted for a study leave from Persistent Systems instead of resigning outright. This ensured that I had a fallback option in case things didn’t work out as planned.

At CMU, I focused on subjects like data analytics, business models, and customer-driven innovation, which helped me think beyond technical execution. I also developed structured thinking and decision-making skills, which are crucial for a product manager.

How did you land your first opportunity in a product-focused role?

After completing my master’s, I joined Intuit as an onsite coordinator, which wasn’t a direct product management role but was a great stepping stone.

This role gave me exposure to:

Customer interactions – I worked directly with users, understanding their challenges and translating them into product improvements.

Business and engineering alignment – I learned to balance technical feasibility with business objectives.

Data-driven decision-making – Prioritizing product features based on impact rather than engineering effort.

This experience reinforced my interest in product management and helped me transition into a formal PM role later.

What was your first official product management role, and what did you learn from it?

My first official product manager role was at ThoughtWorks. It was a significant transition because I had to shift my mindset from execution to leadership—moving beyond delivering features to owning product strategy.

Some key lessons from this role:

Making data-driven decisions – Ensuring every product feature had a strong rationale backed by insights.

Managing stakeholders effectively – Balancing the perspectives of designers, engineers, and business leaders while keeping customer needs at the center.

Developing customer-first solutions – Prioritizing problems that had the most impact rather than just focusing on what was easy to build.

This role shaped my approach to structured thinking, stakeholder management, and product prioritization, which were essential as I moved to larger-scale roles.

What led you to join eBay, and how did your role evolve there?

In 2016, I joined eBay as a product manager, drawn by the opportunity to work on global-scale products that drive business growth. Over the years, my role evolved, and I transitioned into a lead product manager position.

At eBay, my focus has been on:

Developing high-impact product strategies – Ensuring we solve the right problems for both users and the business.

Prioritizing ruthlessly – Deciding where to invest resources for maximum impact.

Leading teams and mentoring – Helping junior PMs develop structured thinking and problem-solving skills.

One of the biggest challenges in a company like eBay is navigating scale and complexity. Every product decision affects a massive ecosystem of buyers and sellers, so trade-offs need to be carefully evaluated. My role has been to ensure that we build the right things, at the right time, in the right way.

What does a typical day look like for you as a lead product manager?

Every day is a mix of strategy, execution, and leadership. Some key areas of focus:

Prioritization – Evaluating product opportunities and ensuring we focus on high-impact work.

Stakeholder management – Aligning with engineering, design, business, and external partners.

Customer insights & data analysis – Reviewing user feedback and market data to guide decision-making.

Mentorship – Coaching junior product managers on structured thinking and product strategy.

Trade-off decision-making – Choosing which features to build, delay, or drop altogether.

Despite all of this, customer obsession remains at the core of my decision-making process.

If you were starting over today, how would you approach your career differently?

Looking back, I feel I spent 3–4 extra years in engineering before realizing that product management was my true calling. If I had to do it again, I would:

Spend one year in engineering – To build a solid technical foundation.

Transition into product management faster – Moving into a business analyst or technical product manager role early on.

Leverage online resources & side projects – Today, there are so many ways to develop PM skills without waiting for a job opportunity.

What skills should aspiring product managers focus on developing?

If I had to highlight four key skills:

Customer obsession – Always start with real user problems.

Structured thinking – Learn frameworks like MECE to break down problems.

Communication – Both written and verbal skills are crucial for stakeholder management.

Technical awareness – You don’t need to code, but you should understand system architecture and trade-offs.

Engage and Grow

Kunal Shah’s career path—from software engineering to product leadership—provides valuable insights for aspiring product managers and tech professionals. Born in Gujarat and raised across multiple cities, Mihir’s career path was anything but linear. From starting as a software engineer at TCS to venturing into business consulting and later founding SMB Catalyst, SMB Next, and Agkiya, his story is one of continuous evolution.

In a conversation with CareerGrowthX, Mihir shared his career journey in detail—how he made critical transitions, the thought process behind his decisions, and the valuable lessons he picked up along the way. His experiences serve as a roadmap for professionals looking to shift from conventional corporate roles to the dynamic world of consulting and entrepreneurship.

Laying the Foundation: Education and Early Influences

Mihir’s early years were spent between Gujarat, Mumbai, and Solapur. His formative years in Solapur, where he completed his schooling, instilled in him a deep curiosity about the world and a drive to seek out opportunities. However, it was his return to Mumbai for higher education that set the stage for his career.

Choosing to study engineering at DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mihir specialized in Information Technology, a field that was booming at the time. While he was initially drawn to IT because of its promising career prospects, his time in college exposed him to the broader world of problem-solving and business challenges. Many of his peers pursued postgraduate studies in the US, but Mihir felt a stronger pull towards financial independence and practical experience. This decision led him directly into the corporate world.

Stepping into the Corporate World: Learning at TCS

Mihir’s first major career break came when he was recruited by TCS through campus placements. His early years at the company were transformative, providing exposure to different roles and industries. Mihir’s natural curiosity led him to explore multiple roles within TCS, from software engineering to project management.

One of the defining moments of his tenure at TCS was his involvement in the Center of Excellence for Adobe Solutions. This initiative, driven by senior leadership, aimed at leveraging Adobe’s technology for large-scale business applications. Being part of this strategic initiative early in his career gave Mihir firsthand experience in consulting, business strategy, and client problem-solving.

During his five years at TCS, Mihir also had the opportunity to work onsite in the US, gaining international exposure and a deeper understanding of global business operations. However, as he advanced in his role, he felt the pace of learning slowing down. Recognizing that his growth curve was plateauing, he began exploring options that would allow him to take on greater challenges.

Breaking into Consulting: The Transition from IT to Business Advisory

While contemplating his next move, Mihir considered pursuing an MBA. He applied to ISB Hyderabad but did not clear the final interview. However, this setback turned out to be a disguised opportunity. His wife got into ISB, giving him a unique window into the world of business schools and consulting through her experiences. Spending time on campus, attending discussions, and interacting with MBA candidates gave Mihir clarity—what he really wanted was not just an MBA degree but the ability to solve complex business problems.

This experience helped him identify what truly mattered: real-world learning and application. Whether it was stepping onto a factory floor with no prior knowledge or solving operational inefficiencies in an industry he had never worked in, Mihir developed a habit of learning on the job. Over the years, working closely with small business owners, he absorbed first-hand lessons on business strategy, operations, and scaling—insights no MBA program could replicate.

This curiosity and willingness to learn became one of Mihir’s defining strengths. Many of his most successful consulting strategies were shaped by lessons drawn directly from entrepreneurs—real-world problem-solvers who navigate challenges daily.

The Entrepreneurial Leap: Founding SMB Catalyst

Even while excelling in consulting, Mihir always had a strong desire to build something of his own. His transition into entrepreneurship was gradual rather than abrupt. While working as a consultant, he was approached by a small business owner seeking strategic guidance. Initially, Mihir helped them over weekends, but the impact was so significant that they invited him to take on a full-time leadership role.

Recognizing a market gap, Mihir launched SMB Catalyst, a consulting firm designed to help Small and Medium Businesses optimize operations and scale. But what set SMB Catalyst apart was Mihir’s belief in building a strong talent ecosystem. Over time, some of his most trusted colleagues evolved into business partners, taking on leadership roles in SMB Catalyst and Agkiya.

Through all these transitions, his wife’s role as a trusted advisor was indispensable. Whether it was weighing the decision to leave a secure job, brainstorming strategies for SMB Catalyst, or evaluating growth plans, she was his go-to thought partner.

Scaling the Vision: Expanding into SMB Next and Agkiya

Over the next decade, SMB Catalyst grew into a trusted consulting firm, working with numerous businesses to optimize their processes. However, Mihir realized that many Small and Medium Businesses needed more than just strategic advice—they needed specialized technical expertise. This led to the launch of SMB Next, which connected businesses with industry experts to solve niche technical challenges.

As digital transformation became a critical need, Mihir saw another gap—Small and Medium Businesses struggling with ERP implementations and technology adoption. In response, he founded Agkiya, a company focused on helping these businesses navigate digital transformation. By structuring their services to be both affordable and high-impact, Mihir and his team created a model that allowed businesses to access top-tier consulting without the high costs typically associated with large firms.

Today, Mihir’s ventures collectively employ over 75 people, with a vision to expand to 200 employees within the next year. His companies have evolved from purely consulting-driven businesses to a comprehensive ecosystem offering strategic, technical, and digital solutions for Small and Medium Business enterprises.

Reflections on Growth and Future Prospects

Mihir’s journey underscores the importance of adaptability, problem-solving, and seizing opportunities. His philosophy of never saying no to challenges—whether it was moving from software engineering to business consulting or stepping into entrepreneurship—has been a defining factor in his success.

His belief in continuous learning and engaging with business owners has provided him with real-world insights that many traditional consultants miss. Instead of relying solely on frameworks, Mihir actively learns from those he advises, making his approach highly practical and impactful.

Moreover, his emphasis on inclusive growth—where the right talent is identified, nurtured, and given the opportunity to grow alongside the company—has ensured that SMB Catalyst and Agkiya thrive not just as businesses but as ecosystems of success.

Through CareerGrowthX, Mihir’s insights serve as a blueprint for professionals aspiring to make strategic career moves. His journey is a testament to the fact that growth is not about following a fixed path but about embracing change, taking calculated risks, and steadily building toward long-term goals.

Day-to-Day Life as a Business Consulting Entrepreneur

Mihir Shah’s role as a business consulting entrepreneur involves solving diverse challenges for small and medium businesses. he shares. “It was my first job, and it taught me how to navigate real-world challenges and build solutions from the ground up.” These early years laid the foundation for Vinay’s technical skills, while his exposure to peers transitioning to global tech companies motivated him to aim higher. “Seeing others take that leap gave me the confidence to think beyond my immediate environment,” he recalls.

Transition to Microsoft India and planning for growth

In 2011, Vinay moved to Microsoft India in Hyderabad, marking his first step into Big Tech. “Joining Microsoft was a big leap for me—it exposed me to larger-scale projects and structured processes,” he says. Working on cloud computing and enterprise systems helped him expand his technical knowledge, but Vinay had bigger aspirations.

While working full-time, he began preparing for the GRE, aiming to pursue a master’s degree abroad. Scoring an impressive 1410, he overcame financial challenges by securing a scholarship. “It wasn’t just about academics,” he reflects. “I knew this was my ticket to bigger opportunities, so I gave it my all.”

Facing rejections and learning to push forward

Like many engineers aiming for top tech roles, Vinay faced his share of rejections. While trying to transition from Persistent Systems, he applied to multiple companies, including smaller firms, and experienced rejections along the way. “If I had let those early rejections stop me, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he says.

One key moment that changed his mindset was seeing a former colleague from Persistent make it into Microsoft. “It made me realize that getting into big tech wasn’t impossible—it just required preparation and persistence,” he shares.

He advises aspiring engineers not to categorize companies into "too big to apply" and to keep pushing forward. “Even if you get rejected, you still learn something that will help you for the next opportunity,” he says. This approach eventually helped him secure a role at Microsoft.

Pursuing a master’s and the financial hurdles

In 2012, Vinay began his Master’s in Computer Science at Clarkson University, specializing in distributed systems. “The scholarship made all the difference—it turned a dream into reality,” he shares. Balancing a demanding academic workload with financial constraints, Vinay worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching Operating Systems and Differential Equations. He also contributed to campus projects, including the Green Data Center initiative.

“Those two years were incredibly challenging but equally rewarding,” he says. “I learned to manage my time, multitask, and focus on what really mattered.”

The Big Break: Internship and full-time role at Amazon

In 2013, Vinay’s career took a significant step forward when he interned at Amazon Web Services (AWS) on the Elastic Load Balancing team. “That internship was my first exposure to large-scale distributed systems,” he recalls. His performance during the internship earned him a full-time role at AWS after graduation.

Joining AWS in 2014, Vinay contributed to key projects focused on system scalability and monitoring. “Working on systems that scaled to millions of users taught me how to think big,” he says. Among his notable contributions was developing monitoring solutions for distributed systems, which enhanced his expertise in cloud computing.

Return to Microsoft to work on Machine Learning

In 2017, Vinay transitioned back to Microsoft, this time joining the Machine Learning Platform team within Microsoft Research. “This role marked a shift in my career—from distributed systems to machine learning,” he explains. His work involved building infrastructure for researchers to develop next-gen AI solutions.

During his tenure, Vinay also pursued a second master’s degree in Machine Learning from Georgia Tech. “Balancing work and study wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly fulfilling,” he shares. By 2019, his contributions had earned him multiple promotions, reflecting his growing influence in the organization.

Building a data platform from scratch at Apple

In 2021, Vinay joined Apple as a Senior Software Engineer in the AIML (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) organization. “At Apple, I’ve had the opportunity to build data platforms from scratch,” he says. Using advanced technologies and tools, Vinay led initiatives to create scalable, high-impact solutions. “There’s something incredibly rewarding about starting with a blank slate and delivering a product that’s widely used within the organization,” he explains.

Parting advice for aspiring engineers

Reflecting on his career so far, Vinay credits his ability to adapt, stay curious, and focus on consistent growth as key drivers of his journey. “Looking back, every challenge taught me something valuable,” he shares. “For anyone aspiring to grow in tech, my advice is simple: keep learning, take calculated risks, and don’t be afraid to aim high.”

Vinay’s experiences, shared through CareerGrowthX, reveal a roadmap for those looking to make intentional career choices in tech. His story is a reminder that growth in tech doesn’t happen overnight—it’s about taking one step at a time, building on each lesson, and pushing forward with clear goals and a resilient mindset.

Engage and Grow

Vinay’s career path is a roadmap for engineers aiming to excel in top tech roles. Recognizing the need to expand his technical expertise, he taught himself automation testing and scripting languages like Python and Perl. These foundational skills enabled him to transition into DevOps roles and laid the groundwork for a dynamic career in technology.

In 2011, Satish joined Accenture, where he worked on DevOps and cloud-related projects for major UK-based clients. This role deepened his understanding of infrastructure management and automation. It also gave him exposure to working on large-scale, high-impact projects in demanding environments. His contributions during this time became a stepping stone for more specialized roles in cloud computing.

In 2013, Satish relocated to Singapore to work with HealthSeq, a healthcare-focused cloud startup. This career move, while filled with uncertainties, allowed him to gain valuable hands-on experience in building and managing private cloud environments. Satish led the design and deployment of HIPAA-compliant cloud infrastructure for hospitals, showcasing his technical leadership and problem-solving capabilities. This role also strengthened his entrepreneurial mindset as he helped scale the startup, which was eventually acquired.

After two years at HealthSeq, Satish joined HPE in 2015. Here, he specialized in Kubernetes and advanced cloud solutions, which further expanded his expertise. His work on designing containerized solutions and implementing scalable cloud architectures contributed to several significant projects. These experiences positioned Satish as a recognized expert in cloud technologies, earning him industry credibility.

In 2019, Satish was contacted by a Microsoft recruiter. Despite his non-traditional IT background, he pursued the opportunity, drawing on his strong portfolio of achievements. Although his first application did not succeed, the recruiter’s positive feedback kept him in consideration for future roles. A few months later, he secured a position as a Senior Cloud Solution Architect. In this role, Satish focused on enabling clients to optimize their cloud usage, conducting workshops, and addressing technical challenges. His work directly contributed to successful Azure adoption for several organizations in Singapore.

In 2021, Satish moved to Australia and joined PwC as a Director in their Microsoft practice. This role allowed him to align cloud technologies with client business goals while mentoring technical teams. Satish also contributed to digital transformation initiatives, blending his technical expertise with strategic business insights to deliver impactful solutions.

In 2023, Satish returned to Microsoft, continuing his work as a Senior Cloud Solution Architect. His responsibilities include collaborating closely with clients to address complex challenges, conducting collaborative workshops, and ensuring the effective utilization of cloud technologies. His ability to navigate technical complexities and align them with business needs remains a hallmark of his career.

Beyond his professional roles, Satish has contributed significantly to the tech community. He has been featured as a thought leader in publications like CDOTrends and Techopedia. As a HashiCorp Ambassador, he has advocated for tools like Terraform and Kubernetes, helping other professionals embrace infrastructure as code. Additionally, Satish has authored articles on advanced cloud practices and frequently participates in meetups and industry events.

Throughout his career, Satish has faced challenges, including competing with peers who had formal computer science training. He recalls moments when technical jargon like “IP addresses” and “subnets” left him feeling out of depth. However, he bridged these gaps through persistence and a commitment to learning. Whether by watching videos, reading articles, or practicing hands-on, Satish consistently prepared himself for the demands of his roles.

Satish’s career reflects the importance of making informed decisions, continuous growth, and sharing knowledge. His pivot from biotechnology to IT and later into cloud computing illustrates how strategic decisions, coupled with a willingness to learn, can lead to a fulfilling and impactful career.

Day-to-Day Life as a Senior Cloud Solution Architect

Satish’s role revolves around ensuring customer success with cloud solutions. entrepreneurial spirit early in life. While pursuing a degree in Computer Science, he developed a GRE prep tool that laid the foundation for his tech-driven business ventures. Although he initially started his career at TCS, Sid soon left the corporate world to launch his own company, Riktam Technologies, in Hyderabad in 2007.

Sid’s vision and adaptability helped him grow Riktam from a mobile app development firm to a full-service IT consulting business with over 100 employees. Along the way, not all of Sid’s ventures were successful—his social networking platform, GroupGala.com, and RemoteTeachers.com, an online learning platform launched during the pandemic, faced challenges and ultimately didn’t take off. These experiences taught Sid valuable lessons in timing, scalability, and aligning with market needs.

Subsequently, Sid ventured into product development and found success with TigerSheet, a no-code platform that simplifies application building for businesses, and Zinterview.ai, an AI-powered interview platform.

Check out the Deep Dive section for the detailed career journey.

Career highlights

GRE Software success (2006-2007): Sid’s first entrepreneurial success came from selling GRE prep software, which opened the door to future ventures.

Founding Riktam Technologies (2007): Leaving TCS, Sid capitalized on the mobile app boom and scaled his company to serve diverse clients.

Products that didn’t take off (2008-2020): Sid launched GroupGala.com, a social networking platform, and RemoteTeachers.com, an online learning platform. It was this courage that enabled him to leave a stable corporate job, embrace uncertainty, and pursue his passion, even in the face of failure.

Deep Dive

Siddharam Shingshetty’s entrepreneurial journey began in Solapur, Maharashtra, where a passion for technology first sparked his vision. Born in a region where resources were scarce, Sid’s love for innovation and problem-solving set him apart early on. After completing his degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2002, he identified a challenge during his own GRE preparation—vocabulary was a key hurdle. Determined to overcome this challenge, Sid developed a GRE prep tool himself to tackle the problem. This tool, initially built for personal use, proved to be so effective that he quickly saw its commercial potential. Sid successfully sold his software to GRE coaching institutes across India, marking his first taste of entrepreneurial success. This early win laid the foundation for what would become a career defined by risk-taking and technological vision.

Despite the initial success, Sid didn’t settle. Recognizing that education was just the beginning of his journey, he pursued an MBA in IT and Finance from ICFAI, Hyderabad, graduating in 2005. This was a pivotal time in his career, as Sid briefly ventured into the corporate world by joining Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as a business analyst. However, it didn’t take long for him to realize that the corporate path was limiting for someone with entrepreneurial ambitions. After just one year, Sid made the bold decision to step away from a stable career, diving into the uncertain but thrilling world of entrepreneurship. His next venture would become the launching pad for his future success.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

In 2007, Sid founded Riktam Technologies, a company initially focused on mobile app development, just as the mobile revolution was beginning to take off. Sid’s ability to foresee trends came into play when Apple released its iPhone API in 2008. Understanding that mobile apps were the future, Sid immediately pivoted his company to focus on app development. This decision paid off immensely as Riktam rapidly grew from a small two-person team to a full-service IT solutions provider. Over time, Riktam began offering custom software development and digital transformation services, helping clients across industries modernize their operations.

But entrepreneurship is never without setbacks. In 2008, Sid launched GroupGala.com, a social media platform designed to help college alumni stay connected through group chats and networking. While the idea had merit, the rapid rise of Facebook made it impossible for Sid’s platform to compete. Technical limitations and the dominance of larger players in the space forced Sid to shelve the project. Despite the failure, Sid walked away with invaluable lessons about timing, market competition, and the critical importance of having the right infrastructure.

Undeterred, Sid continued to innovate. In 2016, he launched TigerSheet, a no-code platform that allows small and medium-sized enterprises to build internal applications without needing extensive programming skills. The platform quickly gained traction due to its affordability and ease of use, helping businesses streamline their internal processes. With TigerSheet’s success, Sid proved his knack for identifying gaps in the market and solving real-world problems with technology.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Sid saw yet another opportunity.

He developed RemoteTeachers.com, an online platform aimed at connecting learners with teachers worldwide, especially during the height of global lockdowns. While the platform showed promise in the short term, the reopening of physical learning spaces led to a significant drop in demand. The platform ultimately couldn’t sustain growth, but this failure reinforced a critical lesson for Sid—the importance of aligning product offerings with long-term trends rather than short-lived phenomena.

Sid’s persistence paid off with the launch of Zinterview.ai in 2022. This AI-powered recruitment platform was designed to revolutionize the hiring process, automating human-like interviews and generating detailed evaluation reports for organizations. By leveraging artificial intelligence, Zinterview.ai helps companies streamline their hiring processes, reducing bias and making recruitment more efficient. This innovative product quickly gained traction, cementing Sid’s place as a forward-thinking entrepreneur.

Through his journey, Sid’s career highlights the impact of bold decision-making and adaptation. Despite facing failures, Sid has continued to pivot, learn, and grow. His story highlights how technology can solve real-world problems, inspiring aspiring entrepreneurs to take calculated risks and adapt to change.

Day-to-Day Life as an Entrepreneur

As the founder of Riktam Technologies and the visionary behind multiple products, Sid’s day-to-day life as an entrepreneur is dynamic and ever-evolving. His mornings often start with a cup of tea before diving straight into work, with days frequently stretching well beyond 14 to 15 hours, especially when focusing on new product development. With Riktam Technologies on autopilot, thanks to a capable team, Sid dedicates much of his time to ventures like TigerSheet and Zinterview.ai. From brainstorming innovative ideas and strategizing go-to-market plans to guiding product development teams and meeting clients, Sid juggles a variety of tasks.

Message for budding entrepreneurs: Should you take the leap?

Sid’s message to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: the space for entrepreneurship is far from saturated, and there’s always room for fresh ideas, especially in emerging areas of technology. While established sectors like food delivery and social networking might feel overcrowded, opportunities abound in rapidly evolving fields such as AI, no-code platforms, and automation. For those considering entrepreneurship, Sid emphasizes the importance of identifying market gaps and being ready to adapt quickly to changes.

He advises budding entrepreneurs to focus on solving meaningful, real-world problems with technology and to approach the journey with passion and determination. While the path is challenging, it is also immensely rewarding for those willing to embrace uncertainty and think creatively. The future, according to Sid, belongs to those who dare to innovate and take calculated risks.

Engage and Grow

Sid’s journey offers valuable lessons for those aspiring to break into entrepreneurship.
